"Changes Ahead "

You will notice that although we still have the World Burn Foundation logo at this stage, we are changing our name to the BURN FOUNDATION of SOUTHERN AFRICA in conjunction with our sister chapters abroad, who are also dropping the “world” from their titles.

This move will help each country to define its own funding strategies, as the “world” part often implied to funders that we are receiving overseas funds.

This is not true, as our funds have come from South Africans for Southern Africans. We support and exchange resources (eg educational posters, etc) with our sister chapters, but remain autonomous.

We find the move very exciting, and look forward to continuing our very important work, under our new name.

We also look forward to revealing our new logo, which is in the design stages.

“The game stays the same, all that changes is the name.”

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!

Huge thanks are due to Johannesburg Municipality Region 3 who sponsored a camp at the Manie Mulder camp grounds in Roodepoort, in April.

17 young burn survivors had a fabulous four day camp, participating in activities as diverse as pottery and painting, to rock climbing.

The contribution of every staff member is so valuable at these camps and we would like to thank the following people in particular:

  • Tjaart, for making the camp happen.
  • Harry Annandale, Jocelin Flank from BFSA who facilitated at the camp.
  • Denise Hurley from BFAustralia who gave much help, particularly in the sharing circle.
  • Virelli, for his consummate camp management.
  • Yasmin and the kitchen staff, who besides cooking the BEST meals provided us with song.
  • All the volunteers who worked with the campers, providing care and guidance.

Many children reported that "this was the best camp ever!"

Bon Voyage!!

Two of our core staff have been invited to attend a burn camp in North Carolina, USA, run by the Jaycee Burn Centre.

They have been fundraising for the last couple of months, to enable them to make the trip.

Harry Annandale and Jocelin Flank leave in July for the United States. We know they are going to learn a lot, and we wish them well.

Have a safe trip and bring back lots of ideas for Burn Foundation South Africa!
